Bad Shift

What shifts you work and how many matters.  It is a fact that people do not not tip as well during lunch as they do at dinner.  So if you only work during the day, you will have to work harder and more hours to make money.  The best shifts are Friday and Saturday nights.  The worst are week days during lunch.

It Puts Gas in the Car

Currently  I am taking classes at John Tyler and waiting tables to make money.  I'm not sure what I want to do with my life but I know its not waiting tables.  Right now being a server is the most money I could make.  It pays $2.15 and hour plus I leave with the tips I make in cash at the end of every shift.  A day like today I wasn't busy just steady, I was there for 4 hours and I made $65.00.  So waiting tables works for right now, it puts gas in the car.

New Shoes

Work shoes wear fast so I find myself needing new ones every few months.  About a month ago I found these shape-up sneakers on sale, so I figured I would give them a try.  Not a good idea! These shoes have weird shaping things on the bottom and they are not no slip!  I am usually very cautious but this weekend I found my self rushing around a little.  I walked back to the kitchen to get a tables food, I stepped in a puddle of water and my foot went right out from under me!  I laughed it off and picked myself up thinking luckily I was on my way to get food. I have learned that I need to pay more attention to the kind of shoes I'm getting and not just whats on sale.

The Big Apple

Right now I am in White Plains, NY for a cousins wedding and it is like another world up here.  I am staying at a fairly nice hotel and have eaten at a couple restaurants since I have been here.  The one thing that has really stood out to me this trip is the hospitality.  There is none, even the girls working the front desk are disengaged and just perform their tasks.  It is nothing like the southern hospitality I am used to and I can't wait to get back to it.

Make My Day

The ideal table is polite and patient.  As your server my job is to take care of you as politely and efficiently as possible.  When a server keeps your glass full, brings your food out hot and checks on you frequently you shouldn't take that for granted.  So when you come across one of those servers make their day and tip them well.

Treat Others the Way You Want to Be Treated

A server comes to the table, greets you politely and waits on you.  You as the customer now have to respond and I believe you should respond with the same amount of respect that your server is giving you.  There are some really rude people out there and every once in awhile they should take a step back and look at how they are treating others and how they would feel if someone was treating them that way.

A Tip?

Did you know that minimum wage of a server is $2.13 an hour?  Employers must pay their servers at least $2.13 and hour, and most servers are only paid the minimum.  Servers make their money from the tips they earn.  Some people don't realize this is how it works, so some people don't tip.  When you go out to eat you should be prepared to tip your server 15-20% of your bill.  It is just common courtesy, a server is taking their time to wait on you so it is expected you compensate them for that time.
