Did you know that minimum wage of a server is $2.13 an hour? Employers must pay their servers at least $2.13 and hour, and most servers are only paid the minimum. Servers make their money from the tips they earn. Some people don't realize this is how it works, so some people don't tip. When you go out to eat you should be prepared to tip your server 15-20% of your bill. It is just common courtesy, a server is taking their time to wait on you so it is expected you compensate them for that time.
Great post. As a waiter myself nothing gets me down more than getting a bad tip on a table I've spent a lot of time on. Just like you said most people don't realize that the majority of our money is from tips so its nice to spread the word.
ReplyDeleteI tip because it's customary, but I always tip extra if the waiter/waitress goes up and beyond to make my stay welcome. Like, waiters get paid to take orders and bring food to the table, but I give extra to the waiter who is overly friendly, polite, speedy, witty, charming, and/or funny. If they work to get my tip, then I sure do deliver.
